Our History

Company History.

P J Brockbank Ltd is a family run business and has over 20 years experience working with oil-fired heating appliances.

Peter Brockbank founded the company in 1989 having worked as an oil fired heating Service Engineer for a nationwide company.

In 1989 Peter decided that he could use his experience in oil fired heating, along with his plumbing and electrical skills to start his own company and bring his own high level of work to homes throughout the Thames Valley area.

Throughout the last 20 years the company has gone from strength to strength, built a sizeable regular cliental and been able to focus its purpose on working solely in the oil-fired appliance sector.

Peter and the Company have been registered members of OFTEC (Oil Firing Technical Association) for nearly 20 years joining very soon after OFTEC was discovered in 1991.

The company currently comprises of 3 employees:

  • Peter Brockbank - Company Founder, Managing Director and Service Engineer.
  • Heather Brockbank - Company Director and Secretary.
  • Kevin Brockbank - Service Engineer.

Heather has always been on hand throughout the years to assist Peter with the day to day running of the company but now Heather looks after the office paperwork, accounts and booking of appointments for Peter and Kevin to attend.

Kevin is Peter and Heather’s son and has worked for the company as a Service Engineer since 2004. Kevin is now in his second term of OFTEC membership and like his father he has spent lots of time trying to build up a vast knowledge of the industry, so between them there is hopefully no problem that can go unsolved.

Our Services

Appliance Servicing

Like most working products, be it a car, washing machine or a boiler. Servicing is a tried and tested way of keeping a product working cleanly and smoothly during its working life.

Oil-fired appliances are no different. In most cases a service can help extend the life of a boiler or cooker and help it burn at it’s most efficient, giving you both piece of mind that you have a safe appliance as well as knowing that its running as efficiently as possible.

As well as checking immediate appliance controls and the oil tank, a service comprises of a full clean of the appliance, removing soot and sulphur deposits which form through combustion in the combustion chamber. We then clean the burner (the main engine), check all the parts for smooth operation and replace any parts if necessary, we then light or fire the boiler and carry out a combustion test (where applicable), setting it up to burn as efficiently as possible.

We then leave a full service sheet with a printout of the combustion test results for your record.

We also send out Service Reminder Cards at the scheduled service intervals to remind you when your service is due.

Appliance Breakdowns

It is almost guaranteed that when the temperature is below freezing outside the heating will fail. Unfortunately at some point in an appliance’s life, failure is inevitable, which is why we will always try our best to attend any breakdown as soon as possible to get heat and warmth back to our customers.

We have a weekly order of spares throughout the year so as to make sure our vans are stocked with as many parts as required to get you repaired as quickly and conveniently as possible. Not having to make return visits to fit common failure parts not only gets customers running and warmer quicker but saves money on costly double visits too!

Appliance Commissioning

When a boiler is installed either as a new installation or as a replacement the appliance must be commissioned to comply with current building regulations.

This must be carried out by a qualified and competent engineer, and the purpose of commissioning is to check and certify that the installation complies with building regulations and that the boiler is set up to burn exactly how the manufacture intends it too.

A general commission makes sure all pipe work and flues are installed correctly as well as checking the combustion chamber and baffles in case of movement in transit, making sure all safety valves have been fitted where applicable and setting up the pressures and combustion levels on the burner.

At P J Brockbank Ltd this is a service we can provide and being OFTEC registered we can certify the installation with the OFTEC scheme, the manufactures warranty requirements and the Local Authorities Building Regulations.
